Middle School

The Middle School at St Paul’s Grammar School offers both the NSW Board of Studies curriculum, leading to the School Certificate at the end of Year 10, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), leading to the IB MYP Record of Achievement and Certificate.

The specific learning needs of early adolescents are catered for in our holistic approach to middle schooling, which affirms Christian faith and recognizes different learning styles influenced by such aspects as gender, age and giftedness.

The MYP is best educational practice, providing a rigorous academic curriculum and encouraging students to be active learners and responsible citizens. The IB Organization (IBO) promotes student-centred learning, so on the IB MYP curriculum map, the student is at the centre. Such a perspective permeates all our MYP subjects and the five IB prescribed Areas of Interaction: Approaches to Learning, Community and Service (C&S),Human Ingenuity, Environments and Health & Social Education. In each Area of Interaction, learning is seen as a sequential process, with the experiences of one year being further developed in the next. C&S requires students to complete volunteer work beyond the classroom. Internationalism prompts the students to contemplate a variety of perspectives.
